Keeping the literary grind going! It’s easy to slow down during the holidays.
Short post today.
I’m almost two-thirds of the way through December and I feel like I need to give myself an internal pep talk on making sure to not flounder in my writing. November was a kick in the butt in regards to keeping it going, especially in relation to finishing my second novel. This is something that’s been knocking around in my head for a few years now.
I’m subscribed to two email courses. One is on the submission process to literary magazines and tips for figuring out the proper criteria. The other is on lessons involving story structure and writing in general (as shown above).
The bottom line is that you don’t get better without trying. Body builders don’t get stronger without putting work in the gym. Musicians don’t refine their skill without practicing their instrument; and writers (or aspiring in my case) don’t develop their voice and style of story-telling without putting effort into actually writing (no matter if it’s good or bad). I take a black notebook to work with me, that I use to jot ideas in whenever I have a free moment. Just need to continue that for the month and not get sidetracked by the holidays.
Until next time.
