Brush Yourself Off and Try Again

Monday mornings are synonymous¬†with morning coffee, groggy commutes, and the start of the countdown back to Friday again for most people. The weekends are never long enough and the work week typically feels like it’s dragging on. Which is why my content on these days (or Tuesdays if my personal deadline slips) tends to be a bit more on the motivational side.

Subject matter that’s been floating around my head for a few days…or even weeks gets converted into a life lesson that I can condense into blog posts that other people seem to enjoy. It’s almost therapeutic, in a way, getting that out. Today, while not directly engaging a particular subject matter as directly as I tend to do, I still think this was worth sharing in this space.

I’m getting back out there into the submission arena.

I reserve the right to keep the publication anonymous. At the very least until the contest is over (I submitted two flash fiction stories). These last nineteen weeks of flash fiction writing have been helping me to work a creative muscle that I think was pretty weak before the start of all this. The ability to tell a story within a compact amount of words had eluded me for a very long time. I’m verbose, I love descriptive language, and I can speak at length about things that excite me. This combination doesn’t always make for something that people want to read and thus my Flash Fiction Challenge was born!

Like anything else, practice makes perfect. Last I checked, I’m not perfect and neither is all of my posts that I do twice a week. So I’m keeping it going. I haven’t submitted anything for publication since 2016 and this is only my second time doing so.

Whatever your goal is this week, keep it in clear view. Figure out exactly what it is and hone in on how you can get there. Break it down into manageable steps and take it one day at a time. You’ll be surprised at what retrospect can do for a rough situation when you’re looking back at it. Be patient, enjoy the process, and keep faith in your dreams coming to fruition with the hard work behind it.

Happy Monday everyone.

Until next time.
