Another Monday Musing # 3

succes

I think there’s something to be said for laying out a goal, figuring out the steps needed to achieve that goal, and then taking those necessary steps toward it.

I think there’s even more to be said about the person who stays on that course even when their view of the finish line (their goal) starts to become a bit obscured. We’re all human right? With that comes a predisposition to becoming distracted and trailing off our chosen path a bit, caught up in the pitfalls that life presents to us at times. The worse ones usually being the ones that seem to catch us completely unaware.

This journey to publication has taken a few unexpected twists and turns with me sometimes questioning myself and my ability; especially when weeks have gone by and I haven’t done anything but write about it on this blog without putting any direct effort towards it. But I have to believe it’s all a part of the progress (including the fleeting moments of living life away from the computer screen).

  1. Continuing to write as much as I can, developing a number of completed works.
  2. Learning more about the editing process and actively utilizing the knowledge I gain.
  3. Read. Read. Read!
  4. Similar to number 1 but now share that work with others to critique.

This is currently my short list of goals to continue working towards; and I’m happy to say that I’m making progress in each area to a certain degree. While I’ve spoken in-depth about numbers 1, 3, and 4 to some extent, I haven’t really spoken about editing and my take on that process (grammar included) since my Grab Bag post back in December on my copy editing training. That post will come next week.

Short post today but bottom line, like the graphic reads, there’s no point in making a plan if you don’t follow through with some type of execution.

Until next time.
